what in the world is the magnavox oddyssey2's keyboard for? i know thats how i select games and play crypto-logic, but what else can it do? it certainly cant program, can it? it even has calculator functions, so they must have a purpose. if there is a way to program on it, that would be really cool to learn how to do!

Yes, you could program the Videopac system with a special BASIC cartridge.
You could also type your name for hiscores (but there were not saved when you switched off the system :-)) And some games used it... like Hangman for example. |

You could save your programs with the Basic expansion via a simple tape recorder :
http://www.cyberroach.com/vidpac/vidhard/new_vid_c7420.htm but you couldn't save your hiscore + name with any known cartridge. This would have required a battery built-in the cartridge, like found on some games for the NES or Epoch Super Cassette Vision. The BASIC was not very powerful. Yes, you could program some simple games, but there were too slow to really enjoy them... Here is an example of a Breakout game program for the Videopac + BASIC expansion : http://mo5.com/musee/fiche.php?id=c7420 |
