First time poster here. Glad to have found this site, as I collect old computers and console game systems.

The reason I am writing is because two nights ago, my home was broken into, and among other things, my TI CC-40 was taken.

Now dealing with the insurance company, and wondering how to assess it's value. Obviously it cannot be replaced at a retail vendor. I know the price it was new, but is that what I should give to teh insurance company as an estimate? I have never had anything stolen, but I am hoping someone here was unfortunate enough to have had an old computer stolen, and might advise me how to present it to my insurance company.

Thanks for your time.

You're lucky because CC-40s are still very easy to get on ebay. I just bought two of them, brand new in the original boxes with all the accessories and manuals, for only $20 each plus s/h. Granted, that is a lower than usual price, but I'd estimate that more typical sellers would ask for $25-$60 for a decent condition CC-40.

By the way, the focus of my vintage computer collection is exclusively handhelds and laptops, and it's been that way for three or four years, so I'm something of an expert in that niche -- in case your insurance company wants to know about the validity of this data.

Sorry to hear about the break-in though. That sucks.
