The internet continues to amaze me!! I was getting depressed as I contemplated the ABC-24. Nearly 200 ICs on a multiwire board - so just about impossible to deduce the circuit and figure out the logical design of the machine. My plans for full restoration were looking like a lifetime's work.......... But now some hope! I had prepared some photos and a technical summary for people's general interest and I will try to post this soon. I hope erik and I can chat by PM and I will let the board know how this turns out. Happy collector! |

Oh, oops, over-enthused. Just looked again and see that erik's dates are a bit late for the CP\/M era.
Here's hoping, nevertheless....... erik?? |

As promised, here is a technical rundown of the ABC-24 and some pics.
Progress is slow - power supply and electronics checked over and machine will power up and give an "ABC-24" signon prompt with flashing cursor. No response to keyboard and no disk read activity, however...... I have dumped the EPROM and begun to trace it but it does not seem to conform to generic CP/M ROM BIOSes. Lack of circuit information makes it impossible to interpret all the OUT codes. A bit stuck at the moment, but have some options: - keyboard electronics checks, difficult without circuit - FDD emulator to eliminate flakey old drives and disks, under way - further searching for old circuit and software docs. Recent posts from erik have disclosed some new avenues!! Hope the pics are interesting. [.http://ABC-24.auscal.org] H |

Wow, nice to see this topic (and this company) got attention, and still goes on. I had no free time at all during the last few months to do (re)search, but now I'm ready to dive into the depths of various Japanese sites (like 2ch) to look for some info.
Great, an official representative! Thanks for joining this forum!
And that another company was SEGA, wasn't it?
I'm not sure about the status of these documents, but would it be possible to share some of them with us? Also, could you please tell us about their PC compatible systems? When looking for ai-PC, all I found was a low-quality photo of an early notebook computer on a russian site.
Thank you very much for your work on this, even if there are a very few of us, we surely appreciate your work! And these are, as far as I know, the only high-res pictures of this machine. |
