CZ-1000

TADEO CZERWENY "CZ" is a an electromechanical company, which was founded by Tadeo Czerweny in September 1958. It is located in Parana, Entre Rios province, in Argentina. The company made transformers, electric motors, etc. In the 80´s Czerweny marketed the Timex Sinclair´s models, under its own name.

The CZ-1000 is thus a rebadged Timex Sinclair 1000, which is itself a Sinclair ZX-81 with 2 KB RAM.

In Argentina Czerweny models competed with Brazilians TK 83, 85, 90x and genuine Sinclair machines, but CZ sold more machines than them.

Marcelo Garcia comments:
In the 80's in Argentina it was possible to find a memory expansion module (16 KB), which was simply a box with extra memory chips which plugged into the back of the Czerweny CZ 1000

As quoted by Marcelo, you could attach 16kb of extra RAM, but the price you had to pay for it (apart from the money, ''cause it was pretty expensive) was an increased reset time and a desperating slow response time when typing BASIC programs. Other drawbacks were it''s slow transfer rate cassette interface, it''s alarming high working temperature and the fact that many IC''s of the previous ZX80 were replaced by the Ferranti''s ULA (cost-saving idea) yielding the computer useless and repairless if you had it wrong, unless, of course, you could "cannibalizate" another one! Nevertheless, it was for us at that time, an adorable tiny self-contained computer with which we learnt BASIC and Z80 code in an inexpensive way!

I owned in the 80's (and still do) a CZ-1000, which is exactly the same as you show in your record, and had 2 Kb of RAM memory. I would add that at that at that time it was also possible to buy a RAM memory expansor, which connected to the CZ-1000 from behind. It featured 16 Kb of memory, which was "a lot" for that that time standards.
