I can confirm that this system uses the AY-3-8610 chip. I recently won this beautiful old system at auction and it came in its original box which also included the instruction manual (which also has the circuit diagram) I had to make a minor repair and took a photo of the chip in question.

I bought one of these at a car boot sale for £1 and it still works! Most modern consoles go wrong after a year or two. The sound comes out of the console, not the TV.

I used to have one, that is all I can probably add, apart from that I believe the sound came out of the TV, not an internal speaker.
